Everyone has habits. A habit is something you do without thinking about it. Some habits are good, and some are bad. The habits we have can change how our lives turn out. That’s why it’s smart to build good ones early.

“Our character is basically a composite of our habits. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character.”
— Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Bad habits are easy to get. Staying up too late, forgetting homework, or spending too much time on your phone are bad habits. They make life harder. They can make you tired or stressed. It’s hard to break bad habits, but not impossible. You just have to want to change.
Good habits start small. You can’t fix everything in one day. It takes time and practice. If you want to wake up earlier, try going to bed a little sooner each night. If you want to be more organized, write things down in a planner. The main thing is to keep trying, even if you mess up sometimes.

I’m trying to build my own habits. I want to stop checking my phone while doing homework. I also want to get more sleep. It’s not easy, but I’m working on it.
Good habits don’t happen overnight. You have to keep doing them every day. Start with one small habit and stick with it. After a while, it becomes part of who you are. Small steps can make a big difference.
